AAngamaly: The "Punarjani" (Rebirth) project, initiated by Seva Bharati to address the psychological trauma faced by disaster victims during the 2018 floods and to provide mental health support, is currently being expanded through various phases. Subsequently, the initiative has intensified its efforts—under the banner "Drug-Free Kerala – Healthy Kerala"—to raise awareness about mental health issues, including substance abuse, within society.
To ensure scientific and expert support for its activities, Seva Bharati has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences). Through this partnership, a framework has been established to provide 'lay counseling' training, technical guidance, and expert support to the project's volunteers. The first batch of 79 counselors, having completed the training provided by NIMHANS, has received their certification. Their services will be effectively utilized through 'Punarjani' counseling centers and various community-level interventions.
As part of this initiative, 54 'Punarjani' counseling centers are set to be established across Kerala this year, with the goal of having all centers operational by November.
The first three centers under this project began operations on October 25, 2026, under the leadership of the Angamaly, Chengamanad, and Kadungalloor units in Ernakulam district. The centers were inaugurated as follows: at the Parakkadavu 'Sukarma Vikas Kendram' (under the Angamaly 'Punarjani' initiative), by Dr. Neeraj H., a psychologist from Apollo Hospital, Karukutty; at the Kadungallur center (located in the 'Vastu' building), by psychologist Ms. Beena; and at the Chengamanad center (situated at Lakshmi Homeopathic Clinic in Desham Kunnumpuram, Aluva), by Panchayat member Ms. Sindhu.
The events were attended by office-bearers of Seva Bharati (at the state, district, and unit levels), 'Punarjani' coordinators, volunteers, and members of the general public.
